I highly recommend this approach. I have used a similar approach
with CVS for nearly 8 years.
 
Subversion does have some problems when used this way.
Mainly, Subversion only supports version control when connected
to the net; it does not support version control when your laptop
is disconnected, e.g. on an airplane.
 
BitKeeper and Arch do a better job of replicated repositories
that can be checked in to independently, and then later
have the repositories themselves be merged.
 
I have some patches that make this more doable for CVS.
 
Subversion doesn't seem to be usable in this disconnected
manner.
