When the sender foolishly uses a 3-pt font, yeah it is quite a horror.
I used to have that problem, as the recipient of those messages. I
had to print it on paper (speaking of the 21st century!) just to be
able to read it and decide whether or not the message was relevant to
me.

Not to mention, fairly often I am sitting at a dumb terminal (you know
those Windows machines that I'm not the daily admin of?) and thus have
no graphical capability while reading my mail (my mail is on a remote
machine - my personal computer). Therefore actually using (plain,
ordinary) -text- for representing written words isn't such a novel
idea after all :-).
