svn automatic checkout / push copy

i currently use cvs and some hooky mechanism for pushing commited changes
to websites. i never liked this logging hack method. and i am wondering if
there are any receipes out there for doing this in svn?

ideally i would like to have some sort of the system for changes to be
pushed in a NUMBER.(ODD|EVEN).NUMBER with the ODD and EVEN version numbers
being handled differently. or something to this effect for doing
beta/prelease/non-production stuff and production checks.

i am sure i am just missing the jargon to find this on my own.
