The repositories directory is on a local filesystem as well as ldd shows that both svn and svnserve are using: libdb-4.2.so => /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.2/lib/libdb-4.2.so (0x400e1000)

Also make sure that /home/xyz/svn/repositories is on a local (i.e.
non-network) filesystem. You can also try to run ldd on svnserve and
svn to make sure that they don't pick up incorrect libs.
