Okay, things seem to have cleared up now --- I will try to replace
libtool, which seems to be the culprit, possibly also on HP-UX 11 and AIX
4.3.3 (on HP-UX I omitted -lz and lost the zlib compression that way, on
AIX 4.3.3 I encountered a strange error absent on AIX 5.2L, will report
later on for those platforms too; we develop on a multitude on platforms,
and only GNU/Linux is easy living thanks to the Debian binary
packages... and hopefully M§ Windows will turn out easy too with EXEs
for installation; a colleague compiled it already on Mac OS X
successfully).
