hot-backup problems

Hi folks,
we're having problems with the hot-backup.py script, but it seems to boil down
to svnadmin.

When trying to make a hot-backup to an NFS share I get:

Beginning hot backup of '/export/svnrepository'.
Youngest revision is 446
Backing up repository to '/backups/spirit/svnrepository-446'...
svn: get_repos: error opening db lockfile
svn: Can't get exclusive lock on file
'/backups/spirit/svnrepository-446/locks/db.lock': No locks available
Unable to backup the repository.

Okay, and then when I try to do a hot-backup to a normal directory:

Beginning hot backup of '/export/svnrepository'.
Youngest revision is 446
Backing up repository to '/BACKUP/svnrepository-446'...
svn: Can't copy '/export/svnrepository/db/strings' to
'/BACKUP/svnrepository-446/db/strings.tmp': File too large
Unable to backup the repository.

Our strings file is 2.6GB... any ideas on how to fix at least this problem ?
Doesn't svnadmin come with large file support on Linux ?

System specs:
Dual Athlon XP 2800
SuSE 8.2 with XMP kernel
svn, version 0.35.1 (r8050)
compiled Jan 12 2004, 19:22:36

Thanks in advance,
        Marc
