Installing repository on NetApp

I am evaluating subversion for a new project and immediately ran into
the problem where the repository cannot be NFS mounted due to locking
requirements. Our current CVS repository is stored on a NetApp (network
appliance) filer which exports its filesytem via SMB and NFS. Putting
our repository on a different system with local storage seems to defeat
the purpose of the NetApp so I appear to be stuck. Has anyone any
experience with using SVN with a network appliance or some other network
attached storage device? I can't believe that this has not been tried
before (unless of course, most open source/non-commercial setups might
not have netapp's so this could be the first after all...).
