The error message in your original post indicates it's client-side.
Besides, in the ra_local test, there is no separate server and
everything is single-threaded and synchronous. I haven't a clue what's
going wrong, but I suggest you check that you're not somehow pulling in
some old Subversion shared libs -- that could definitely cause major
problems.
