Perhaps having another working copy on your laptop? I understand
you as having a network etc. connection between your laptop and
your desktop at work/home. So before you leave you can commit
all your changes on the desktop to the repos, then update the
working copy on your laptop and go to the library and work there.
Back at your desk you commit your work on the laptop to the
repos and then update the working copy on the desktop.
