svn import failing - troubleshooting?

Hi,

I'm trying to run the initial import of a repository and it's failing
with a fairly cryptic error message...

Here's the command I'm running:

{root}>svn import ./Research file:///disk2/apache2/htdocs/svn/repos/Research

I've also tried:
{root}>svn import ./Research file:///disk2/apache2/htdocs/svn/repos

Here's the error I'm getting:

   --This line, and those below, will be ignored--

   A Research
   ~
   ~
   "svn-commit.tmp" 4 lines, 64 characters

The repository itself looks like it was created fine
from svnadmin create:

{root}iceland:[153]>ls -l /disk2/apache2/htdocs/svn/repos/

drwxrwxr-- 2 root nobody 512 Oct 29 10:36 dav/
drwxrwxr-- 2 root nobody 512 Oct 29 10:36 db/

drwxrwxr-- 2 root nobody 512 Oct 29 10:36 hooks/
drwxrwxr-- 2 root nobody 512 Oct 29 10:36 locks/

As always, any help or pointers much appreciated.
