Followed that link mentioned below, which eventually leads to a MS page
called "Internet Explorer Tools for Validating XML and Viewing XSLT Output".
After downloading iexmltls.exe and following installation instructions
-- lo and behold! -- IE 5.5 does display the XSLT output correctly...
