Apparently random crashes

Hi,

I'm using TortoiseSVN 1.9.5 on Windows 7 SP1, although other TortoiseSVN versions have been tried, as described below.

I have recently been experiencing apparent TortoiseSVN crashes. I'm trying to get additional information to see if I can determine the underlying issue which may not be caused by TortoiseSVN.

Some of the TortoiseSVN context menu itmes work and others don't. When the system "crashes", there are two dialogs, as follows:
  Dialog 1
    Title:     TortoiseSVN client
    Icon:      None
    Message:
               TortoiseSVN client has stopped working
Windows is checking for a solution to the problem...
    Button(s): Cancel

  Dialog 2
    Title:     TortoiseSVN client
    Icon:      None
    Message:
               TortoiseSVN client has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
    Button(s): Close program

For a clean checkout with no modifications, each TortoiseSVN context menu item was selected, with the results described below.
The following options partially draw the expected dialog and then report the error dialogs, described above:
    Commit...
Get lock (Inconsistent - 4 fails, 1 success in testing prior to this message)
Branch/tag... (Inconsistent - 4 fails, 1 success in testing prior to this message)
The following all work OK, in that the initial dialog is displayed and then manually cancelled
    Checkout
    Update
    Show log
    Repo-browser
    Check for modifications
    Revision graph
    Resolve...
    Update to revision...
    Revert...
    Clean up...
    Release lock...
    Switch...
    Merge...
    Export...
    Relocate...
    Add...
    Create patch...
    Apply patch...
    Properties
    Settings
    Help
    About

I've tried to generate methodical results. However, while experiencing this error over several days, I believe that some of the successes (listed above) may also have failed previously. It's difficult to be certain since there have been so many failures while I've been attempting to identify some underlying cause.

I've tried reverting to v1.9.4 and to a nightly build (TortoiseSVN-1.9.99.27646-dev-x64-ipv6-svn-1.10.dev.msi), with the same results. I had installed v1.9.5 in December and all was well until sometime after my return to work this year. I currently have v1.9.5 reinstalled.

Using SVN from the Command Prompt works just fine, even for the operations such as committing and branching that have failed in the TortoiseSVN tests, described above.

A potentially significant change since the system was previously working is that the PC had been choked for Windows Updates since 24th Nov 2016. That issue was resolved following my return to work this year and a backlog of approximately 500 Windows updates were applied. A binary search of the updates would be very time consuming and might still not result in useful findings. However, I used Windows Safe Mode to restore to the earliest restore point which I believe was before the bulk of the Windows updates were applied (although I note that many updates after the system restore point remained installed. *TortoiseSVN is no longer crashing.* However, I have 259 Windows updates pending and I expect they will be auto-applied soon, even if I don't permit them to be installed immediately. I fear the problem will return.

I note from the TortoiseSVN crash handler page (https://tortoisesvn.net/crashhandler.html) that TortoiseSVN seems to use drdump.com. Have the errors described above been dumped to drdump.com? If so, how do I find and review the relevent dumps?

I understand that the problem may not be with TortoiseSVN directly. Is there any information I can get from TortoiseSVN to help identify the underlying issue?

Regards,
Bruce
