Export a specific revision gets older stuff also...

I have been using SVN for about 10 years, and have got used to its quirks. My latest issue has got me stumped. I am trying to recreate a live issue, by exporting a specific revision of our software. I am exporting the entire folder structure, which is very deep. However, even though I provide an old revision, it gets stuff that wasn't added until after that revision. How can that be?

One such problem is in a folder nested several layers deep. If I export just that folder with the same revision, it does it correctly, as I expect. However, if I do it at the higher folder, it gets this folder, as above, but also a sub-folder that was only added in a much later revision, even though I specified the same revision.

I am puzzled.
