Agreed.
But: you can specify "C:\MyRepo" and then click the "..." button to
browse the repo. Then you can select e.g. 'trunk' from there, click OK
and you have the correct file:/// url.

I think it's bad to check out from a repo root, so having to click the
browse button to first select a subfolder is good enough.
