Modal commit window

As I am used to the Mac UI I often stumble over the
Windows modal windows. I find especially the modal commit window of TortoiseSVN a bit annoying: You just
started the commit procedure -- and collecting file info can take some time. While this process is on the way you cannot access the parent window (which is NetBeans in my case) to check sth in your source code.

Is there a work around for this behaviour?
