Merge's "Show log" won't filter... just in a given branch

I'm cherry-picking revisions in chronological order to port changes from trunk into a branch. When I click the "Show log" button in the "Merge" dialogue it shows the latest 100 revisions as normal (e.g. 3003 to HEAD). But I'm still reviewing earlier changes (e.g. r2250 and on) so I click on "Show range". No matter what values I enter (I've tried "2250 to HEAD", "2250 to 2260"...), the dialogue updates to show the *complete branch history*. No only does it take two minutes to load but I also need to scroll and find r2250 manually.
I've been using this feature for years and the filter has always worked fine. But the weirdest thing is that the filter actually works fine for other branches in the same repository!
Do you have any idea of what might be causing this issue?
P.S. 64-bit TortoiseSVN/1.9.2 on Windows 7 against Subversion/1.7.2 on Windows Server 2003.
