TortoiseCVS with ssh keeps asking for password

My apologies if this question has been asked before, if it has been point me to the answer and I will remove this.

I use Tortoise CVS version 1.12.5 in conjuction with an ssh server, I have created the keys and I can logon the Unix box we use as the CVS repository ok - with out typing in the password - which proves that the key works.

My problem occurs when I go to a Checkout for the first time. I get asked for the Tortoise CVS password. I try the password and key phrase both to the Unix box and neither work.

I then get the following error message

In C:\CVS\Checkout: "C:\Program Files\CVSNT\cvs.exe" -q checkout -P src/dbscripts/Tables_KPI
CVSROOT=:ssh:s7746236_at_etlwork-kn-d1:/grid/ciw_cvs/cvs_repository

cvs [checkout aborted]: writing to server socket: error -1
Access denied
No supported authentication methods left to try!

Error, CVS operation failed

Does anyone have any suggestions.
