svnserve is not going to go away as it is a core part of Subversion, and
SASL should still work, though I'm not sure that anyone on the subversion
dev team has worked on it for a long time now. My comment was more to do
with whether the people packaging the distributions consider it worthwhile
to include the SASL utilities now. To be honest I have not looked recently
as I no longer maintain my own server and it may be that they are still
being provided.
