I am also seeing similar CPU spikes when using the repository browser window. I don't have this issue when checking out a large code base for example.

When the CPU spikes my Laptop freezes for a second or so. Cannot move the mouse, ...

I even did a fresh installation of Windows 8.1 (for some other reason) and I still have the same issues.

I have installed TortoiseSVN v1.8.7. This is on a brand new Lenovo X1 Carbon (2nd generation ultrabook). I don't have similar CPU spikes with other software running on my machine (such as Visual Studio 2012 and 2013).

I have run xperf for about 30 seconds or so and here is the ETL and uploaded it to OneDrive. You can download it from here:
