To satisfy both sides, can this be made a per subscriber setting?
Those who want it, can have it, others not.
Goat saved, wolf full. (slovenian proverb, the english equivalent is: run with the hare and hunt with the hounds )
(the list software would also have to filter out the prefix from incoming emails)

While your request is reasonable, I won't do it:
As I mentioned a very long time ago on the very same subject, the downside is too messy to deal with.
Just set up your email client properly to deal with the header fields and you're fine.
