Git is off topic here ;-) However, if your goal is to look at logs
off-line I have not found a better solution than creating a local Git
repository specifically for that purpose.

I still use Tortoise for working with our SVN repository. TortoiseSVN is a
great tool, I think it's the best version control tool I have ever used.
