Global ignore list not respected

I checked:

The files are indeed .obj, as in the ignore list

The Ignore list is ignored when I select Add: all the .obj files are
listed in the Add panel.

I selected the VCProjectRelease folder and then 'Unversion and add to
ignore list VCProjectRelease (recursively)', but nothing happens.

How do I get rid of the versioned .obj files?
