The server sent an improper HTTP response (SVN v1.8)

HI,

I got the error message 'The server sent an improper HTTP response' when
updating my repository.

I use TortoiseSVN. Version info:

First of all I tried changing http-bulk-updates setting in config files and
registry (as described in another post) --> did not solve the problem

After some time I noticed that there is a difference when using different
configuration files:
svn update --> error 'The server sent an improper HTTP response'
svn update --config-dir c:\temp --> new configs created, no error

--> I deleted all configuration files
'svn update' still did not work.

--> Registry: Deleted HKCU\Software\Tigris.org
'svn update' works!!

Now, every time I change settings in TortoiseSVN I have to delete
HKCU\Software\Tigris.org
In v1.7 this was not necessary. Could this be corrected?

Regards
