Repository updating

Hello

I have set up TortoiseSVN on my WIn7 PC x64, by following the steps from here: http://tortoisesvn.net/docs/release/TortoiseSVN_en/tsvn-qs-guide.html

in brief:
1. I installed TortoiseSVN
2. I created a repository folder locally
3. imported project's source code to the repo
4. Created a working directory and Checked out from the repo.

After starting working on my working copy and committing stuff, the only place changes get stored in is in the .svn hidden folder inside the my working copy (I checked modification times).
Shouldn't update the repo folder ? if yes how ? also the original source code directory shouldn't be updated every time i commit changes. in other words the latest source code is only the working directory, where else can i find it ?
Please advise.

Thanks
