1.8.1 fails merge using svn server 1.6.11

While attempting a merge from one branch to another the following errors show up in our apache error_log.

[Tue Aug 13 14:51:44 2013] [error] [client x.x.x.x] Provider encountered an error while streaming a REPORT response. [500, #0]
[Tue Aug 13 14:51:44 2013] [error] [client x.x.x.x] A failure occurred while driving the update report editor [500, #103]
[Tue Aug 13 14:51:44 2013] [error] [client x.x.x.x] Error writing base64 data: Software caused connection abort [500, #103]

Another developer decided to roll back to 1.7.13 and the merge was successful.

I figure this is a bug, but find it odd I'm the only one having the issue at this point in the game.
