Windows 8 and HTTP Repository Compatability

Hello,

TortoiseSVN is great, I've been using it for a long time and can't live without it!

Problem: I cannot connect to repositories over HTTP using TortoiseSVN or the command-line SVN bundled with, whereas HTTPS repositories work just fine. I can access repositories over HTTP in a web browser like Chrome, so I know that everything is working. With the older version of TortoiseSVN (1.7.x) I had installed on Windows 7, these same repositories were working just fine.

I've recently upgraded to Windows 8 and had to re-install my toolset, TortoiseSVN being a part of that. I installed the 1.8.x version intially which is now updated to the lates version:

TortoiseSVN 1.8.1, Build 24570 - 64 Bit , 2013/07/22 18:28:29
Subversion 1.8.1, -release
apr 1.4.8
apr-util 1.5.2
serf 1.3.0
OpenSSL 1.0.1e 11 Feb 2013
zlib 1.2.8

The error event path has changed when I updated to the latest version, as before on the prior 1.8.x I was getting prompted for a Username and Password all the time and then it failed. Now I can authenticate, but nothing happens, TortoiseSVN spins for a while and then tells me an error occurred.

"Error: Unable to connect to a repository at URL 'http://xxxxxxxxxxxxxx'
Error: Error running context: The server unexpectedly closed the connection."

Can anyone help, what is going on? Is this a known issue, as I think its a nasty bug, if its not my environment causing the problem.
