Do you mean that you created a SVN working copy (via SVN Checkout) at
your desktop? Or do you mean that you used "TortoiseSVN->Create
repository" to create an actual SVN repository?

My guess is that you did the former (created a working copy). If this
is 1.7 or later, then you should look for a hidden .svn folder (1.6 and
prior, that folder was in every sub-folder of the working copy). You
can then remove or rename that hidden folder and TSVN will no longer
consider your desktop to be a working copy.

Naturally: You should make a fresh backup of your desktop folder before
trying that (or do a rename of the .svn folder instead of deleting it).
