But then you have the opposite problem - you end up with people who
don't realize that they can highlight, copy & paste text there, and (I
can't test I can't test at the moment) CTRL-C may not work as it does
with the current messagebox.

The current implementation is *fine*. It provides instructions and if
you follow the instructions as they're written, it works every time
(in my experience).
