History gone after moving files in repository

Hello,

could somebody please explain to me how the history got lost in the following scenario (SVN 1.7)?

1. Colleague had not created a \trunk folder under his
project folder but just checked in to his project
   folder.

2. Later he created a branch, this time he first
created a branches folder below the project folder.
Project folder now contained folders and files of
his project and a branches folder.

3. because we wanted to reintegrate and because
revision graph looked slightly odd having a main
line with revision 839 and the newest branch
version also having revision 839 and all in between
revisions had been shown on branch and on main line
I thought it would be good to first create a trunc
folder and move the current project version to that
so the project folder would have a trunk and a
branches subfolder. I used repository browser for
it and moved all files and folders except branches
into that newly created trunc folder.

Since then on looking at the version history of that trunc folder via log or graph only shows two revisions: the one when creating this and the one for the move.

Is there any way (besides looking at individual files history) to see the history again on trunk?

Greetings

Markus
