1.7.x returns invalid XML

If I use the repo-browser for viewing repo content I can see in the left panel that in some directories the content has grey capitals. Trying to get a "Show log" resulting a message that my server is offline. Canceling the request to work offline results in message:

"The REPORT request returned invalid XML in the response: XML parse error at line 5: not well-formed (invalid token)"

The Server log "visualsvn_apache.log" shows following entry:

"[Tue Jan 15 11:12:14 2013] [error] [client 10.8.138.85] Could not fetch resource information. [500, #0]
[Tue Jan 15 11:12:14 2013] [error] [client 10.8.138.85] Could not open the root of the repository [500, #160004]
[Tue Jan 15 11:12:14 2013] [error] [client 10.8.138.85] Found malformed header ''\xf7\xd4\x02#\xe4\xdf\x9e\x99\x10T\x9c\xb2~\xb8' in revision file [500, #160004]"

The same message appears on all folders where I get the connecion issue.

I am using a 1.7.10 client and also tried the 1.7.11. The server is a VisualSVN with SVN server 1.6.x.

Using a 1.6.x client does not show this behaviour.

I followed the discussion and advises without success in the following thread:

Any idea what goes wrong?
