Thanks for the response, Dale.

Ah, I see... it seems that I'm barking up the wrong tree, so to speak.

I am familiar with unix2dos (and its converse), and I'll go down that
road if there is no other option, but my hope was to avoid having to use
it every time I need to merge changes from this particular source.

In any case, I appreciate your insights.
