Styling Text in Commit Message Window

There is this in the Help:
"You can apply simple formatting to your log messages using a convention similar to that used within emails. To apply styling to text, use *text* for bold, _text_ for underlining, and ^text^ for italics."

Many of my messages use underscores for variable and function names.

If I am really careful, I can choose from the drop-down and get away clean.

But all too often, lines get underlined I do not mean to get underlined.

How do I turn this off (Ok, found where to do that), and/or _undo_the_underlining_. My experience shows, once its underlined, it's underlined for good.
