Patrick, more questions.

Do you install for all users or just for you (I don't remember if we
still have that option)? Win32 or x64 installer?

Was an official 1.7.x release the first version of TortoiseSVN ever
installed on that PC? An earlier version? Did you ever install nightly
builds?

The FAQ refers to permissions on HKCR. Theses are actually a merged
view of the permissions in HKLM/Software/Classes and
HKCU/Software/Classes. So after a failed new install what do the
permissions of the TortoiseSVN entries look like in these 2 places?
