Well, yes, but the slots "belong" to your operating system (or maybe the
explorer). Ask Microsoft for a way to prioritize their usage.

You could checkout to a new location and copy all files from the old wc
there. BTW: the release notes clearly suggest to commit and cleanup all
working copies before upgrading to 1.7.
