I have the same issue. I have externals from the same repository as subfolders.

Root:

https://.../svn/Products/1stAnswer/Project/trunk

Externals:

FirstAnswer.Core https://.../svn/Products/1stAnswer/Core/trunk
FirstAnswer.Data https://.../svn/Products/1stAnswer/Data/trunk
FirstAnswer.Web https://.../svn/Products/1stAnswer/Web/trunk

If I edit files in Core and Data for example and click commit in the root folder, I used to see the changes from the subfolders as well and was able to commit them all together.

In 1.7.7 this is no longer working. I only see changes in the root folder, not in the externals-subfolders.
