working copy destroyed

Hi,

my working copy is defect and I can't get it working again.
I am using TortoiseSVN 1.7.7, Build 22907 - 64 Bit on a Windows7 64 Bit.
This was what happened:
- I wanted to add svn-props to a file with TSVN (as I do often), but this time it showed an error that some file is missing or not accessible (don't remember exactly)
- now all overlays and context menu items were gone except "SVN Upgrade working copy", Repo-browser, Properties, Settings, Help, About
- convert to 1.7 fails because it's not pre-1.7
- I renamed my wc folder ("portal") to "portal.bak" and checked out a complete new wc in a new folder "portal"
- I restarted windows because it was finishing time
- today the new wc "portal" showed "SVN Upgrade working copy" and "portal.bak" the normal icons and overlays
- I tried to update "portal.bak", but it failed (don't remember why)
- I tried to cleanup "portal.bak", but got error:

    Cleanup failed to process the following paths:
    M:\swi\portal.bak
    Can't open file

    'M:\swi\portal.bak\.svn\pristine\ba\ba10<some_md5_hash>.svn-base':
       Das System kann die angegebene Datei nicht finden.

- then I renamed both destroyed working copies to "portal.1" and "portal.2" to checkout a new wc "portal"
- now the new wc seems ok, but when I try to "show log" another error message appears:

    Working copy 'M:\swi\portal' is an old development version (format 12): to
    upgradt it, use a format 18 client, then use 'tools/dev/wc-ng/bump-to-19.py',
    then use the current client

    (Double-click to clear error message)

- next try to context menu only showed "SVN Upgrade working copy"
- next try I had the other context menu items back, and "show log" worked as expected
- after I modified and commited some files and the next windows restart I only get some overlay icons and no context menu items except "SVN Upgrade working copy", Repo-browser, Properties, Settings, Help, About

How can I get out of that?
Shouldn't "Clean up" correct such errors that svn files are missing?

My coworkers use TSVN 1.7.6, TSVN 1.7.7 and some 1.7 linux clients.
Server is version 1.7.4 (r1295709) and our repositories were 1.6-dumped and 1.7-imported so they should be in 1.7 format.
WC lies on a samba share and has 777.
The files entries and format contain 12.
pristine/ba contains 14 files .svn-base
