Using client hook script

Using nightly I'm able to use client size hooks.

I use .js file for checking xml file integrity.
  - How can I pass result into TSVN is case of error to stop commit?
  - how to check only xml files selected to commit
  - hook scripts can be set for files or dirs only?
I get thru manual, but simple example would be better.
