So now I am confused... Can a working copy be checked-out anywhere on my disk and have it work properly or does it have to be checked out at the root of a hard disk (i.e. c:\, d:\, etc).

The problem I am seeing is that with Version 1.7 (64 bit) the icon overlays don't show up if default caching is enabled. The directory structure I have is d:\dev_directory\toolbox. The "toolbox" directory is the root for a working copy and it contains the hidden .SVN directory.

Should this setup work? If so, is the problem being looked into?
