The repo browser can not just add non-existing folders. Therefore the
external can not be added/shown since there's an intermediate folder

btw: you should change those externals as soon as possible. While they
worked in 1.6 and still work mostly in 1.7, that kind of setup was
never intended to work and therefore is not supported.
From what I heard, it's very likely that this 'feature' will get
broken completely in 1.8 (as mentioned: it was never intended to work.
That it works now is just pure luck).
