Word Docs Unexpectedly Become Read-Only While Editing

Hello,
I am running Windows 7 64-bit and am using Office 2010 (recent upgrade, this issue also occurred with Office 2007).
I have a number of Word documents that are under source control. I start to edit a document and I will be able to save (Ctrl+S) once or twice, then I find that the next time I try to save (Ctrl+S) Word displays a message box stating that the file is Read-Only and gives me the option to Save-As.
* This issue occurs while I am editing a document and after I have already had one or two successful saves.
* When I look at the properties of the file, the Read-Only box is not checked.
* This happens with all of the Word documents that are under source control that I have tried to edit.
* I've made a renamed copy of a file that was presenting this issue, did not add the file to source control, and the problem did not occur in the copy. This is what leads me to believe that this is likely an issue with TortoiseSVN, the source control client.
Your attention in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Mike Guerrieri
