Upgrade from 1.4.5?

We've been using subversion 1.4.5 happily for many years. We are about to deploy the first 64 bit Windows 7 machines. I don't know if the 1.4.5 client will work with Windows 7, but I'm thinking perhaps we shouldn't even try. Are there known difficulties with upgrading so many versions? Should I update server and clients simultaneously? Any advice or warnings?
