Since I replied to this topic: "1.7.4 Externals are not found when creating a tag any more", I didn't know that I had to quote the message I replied to, so here it is:
 
Hi

I have a project which is configured to use 3 externals. When I updated to
1.7 I saw that this worked just fine. Upon tag creation, Tortoise listed
all the externals as expected.

However now, it just says that no externals are found when I create a tag.
I can see the externals listed in the properties of the top level project
and checkouts etc are fine since all the externals are fetched.

We even have an old script that collects the revisions for the externals
and puts them in the comment of the tag using tortoisproc since we used
this prior to 1.7 and this also works, all the externals are found and
inserted into the comment but in the same dialog at the bottom, Tortoise
says it can not find any externals.

Since it actually has worked at one point after updating, it seems that
something has broken but I have no idea on where to look.

I use Tortoise 1.7.4 and I have created externals to specific revisions. In the trunk these externals are functional.
But when I created a branch from the trunk and wanted to check out that branch - 'path not found' message appears for each external and none of them is checked out.
I use ../ externals, relative to trunk folder.
I know that with TortoiseSVN 1.6.16 working with externals in branches worked.
