RE: Sometimes Revision Graph Fails to Appear

I am still trying to identify the steps to reproduce. I have only anecdotal
observations so far.

Following a reboot on a clean local folder, the revision graph seems to work
pretty reliably.

I am in the process of merging a number of bug fixes (to my own project) to
the trunk. The process usually involves looking at the revision graph for
some component, deciding on the merge, then doing the merge and committing
it. Sometimes I'll do several merges before committing.

My sense is that once the revision graph has been run once successfully,
then something is done to modify the local copy of the repository (such as a
merge), after that the next attempt to do view a revision graph is likely
(perhaps with certainty -- I don't have enough data yet to declare that) to
fail.

Recovery still involves clean-up and reboot (just killing the hung Tortoise
thread using Task Manager does not help at all).

If I were the developer investigating this, I would look for any info that
the rev-graph SW is caching. Perhaps it is getting into a situation where
cached data differs in a fatal way with actual structure.

Again, I am running Tortoise 1.7.3 on Windows XP. Our SVN server is
Collabnet still at the 1.6 level.

Hope this data is helpful.

Karl

Subject: RE: Sometimes Revision Graph Fails to Appear

I can confirm that I've been able to reproduce this with 1.7.3. I did a
revision graph for one repository and it worked, then I did a revision graph
for a second repository and it failed. All following attempts failed.
