Remove Tortoise items from File menu (NOT context menus)

Total Tortoise noob here - so please be gentle!
I have no problem with Tortoise adding itself to Windows Explorer's right-click context menus. Sweet! Works fine for me.
But I have a ***BIG*** problem with Tortoise adding itself to the top of the "regular" File menu. That's because my primary method of creating a new folder is the keystroke sequence: <Alt> f <Enter> <Enter>.
When Tortoise installs its "SVN Checkout..." and "TortoiseSVN" items at the top of the File menu, it breaks this keystroke combo - which I regard as a standard part of Windows.
This is a big deal for me. After 10 years of using it, this keyboard trick is hardwired into my brain. I need it a lot more than I need those Tortoise menu items.
So, the question is: Is there a way to prevent this or to undo it? I'd be perfectly happy to just remove these items from the File menu. Does anybody know how?
THANKS!
