It doesn't open up all the nodes at once, it opens them up sequentially.
  But I think the real source of my trouble here is that if any folder
expansion operation in the repo-browser takes a long time, the UI
freezes up.

If I'm using TSVN-repo-browser over a relatively slow link and try to
open up a folder that has a few thousand files in it, the UI freezes up
until the operation completes. The '*' key just makes this more obvious
by trying to open up a bunch of folders very rapidly.

I'm no expert on windows programming, but this sounds to me like the UI
thread is busy and not accepting windows events.
