Removing Checkout with 1.7.1

I tried to commit changes from my checkout and somehow got numerous disk
I/O errors. (It tried committing files already up-to-date?) This in short
corrupted something, presumably my checkout. So I deleted my checkout as I
always have when I got the occasional bizarre error (or just moved or
deleted a folder in 1.6.x).

So I made a new folder with the same name and tried to checkout again, but
I cannot. It says I must cleanup first, but when I do, it says some hashed
SVN file is missing. In fact, the whole folder is new, therefore empty.

I tried the trick of exporting to the same folder --
http://web.archive.org/web/20101201061652/http://tortoisesvn.net/node/343
-- all the files returned, but I get the same errors.

I just want a new checkout in the same location. I had no trouble doing so
with 1.6.x...
