extra (auto-generated?) entries in Recent Messages list

Hello,

I've noticed a change with contents of the list shown when clicking on
'Recent Messages' button on the commit dialog. Was previously using version
1.6.14

It is including messages that I did not manually enter as commit messages,
I'm seeing entries that look to be auto-generated based on merges (and
commits of these merges) I have performed since upgrading to 1.7

Is there a way to disable this behavior? I didn't see anything in the
Advanced Options screen to configure this, I didn't see anything in the help
file or release notes that talks about this.
