Icon overlays in shell cache mode do not refresh automatically

Dear supporters

I'm using TortoiseSVN 1.6.16 on Windows XP SP3. Icon overlays status cache is set to shell. Using Windows Explorer context menu TortoiseSVN->Add for example doesn't reflect the change on the icon unless Refresh is done with F5 or View->Refresh from Explorer.

there is a mention of "some tricks and workarounds to make the explorer refresh the overlays even on the left treeview, but those are tricks and workarounds, which obviously don't work all the time."

Would anyone know what these workarounds are and if they would solve the automatic refresh issue? If this is not the expected way for Explorer to work with these overlay icons of course.
