Error comparing/Word 2002

I am attempting to get started with tortoise svn. I am using WORD 2002 on an XP machine.

I have made a repository. I've checked out of my WORD document and made changes. Now I wish to do a difference.

I keep on getting a popup errorbox saying Error comparing file1 and file2. When I try to close the windows showing the two versions of the document, WORD keeps on tripping over NORMAL.DOT.

Originally when I just tried to open my document, I was getting a "Not enough memory or disk space to show figures" error. My understanding is that is a WORD bug. I got rid of some unformatted unicode and that problem went away.

Somebody must have had similar difficulties before me. I have run out of things to try. Does anybody have any free advice.

Thanks very much,
Wayne Hajas
