TortoiseSVN halts/freezes system while SVN Update on WinXP (64-bit) and other systems

Hi!

Action: Run "SVN Update" at any big repository with lots (15, in my case) of svn:externals to other repositories.

Expected: While updating I should be able to continue my usual work effectively. Some slight or moderate slowdown expected, but I should be still able to work. For example, I should be able to write and answer to ICQ messages.

Got: TortoiseSVN (or SVN itself?) halts/freezes system for quite long periods of time (up to 10+ seconds).

Question: Why does it happen? Can I do anything to fix this behaviour? Could it be fixed at all?

Thanks for help,
Eugene Germanov,
Software Engineer
